Hand Painted mural (from City Govt. site) Two New Deal Era projects are being updated with the use of grant funds. The El Pomar Foundation and the Gay and Lesbian Fund for Colorado are funding the conservation of two wall murals painted in the City Auditorium. The murals were a project of the Works Progress Administration and were painted by two locally known artists – Archie Musick and Tabor Utley. Located in the lobby of the Auditorium, the murals have been exposed to years of dust, smoke and exhaust. The conservation treatment involves cleaning the murals, stabilizing cracking paint and repainting chipped areas. The conservation treatment will ensure the protection of these classic works of art for decades to come.

View of auditorium from the stage, with the floor set up for a concert, with portable seats.
Note: Front rail of orchestra pit, at the edge of the stage, and windows, in back, above the balcony. The large squares in the ceiling, are skylights. The ceiling is made of braided horsehair, which was an early form of acoustic control.

The door, on the left center of the loges, is where the elephants and other performing animals, at the Shrine Circus, came in to the auditorium. There are still special steel braces, in the ceiling, where the trapeze artists connected their equipment.

The following three pictures are of Cars that were on display at City Auditorium. Various models are shown, from time to time. In 2006, there was an antique automobile show, with 50 cars, dating from a 1901 Oldsmobile, Curved Dash automobile, to cars in the '50s and '60s. This was through the efforts of the members of the Veterans Antique Car Collectors Club of America, as a fundraiser for the Friends of the Historic Colorado Springs City Auditorium Inc. They raised over $ 4, 200 and it may become an annual event.
